In an effort to help prevent or slow the growth of adrenal tumors in ferrets research suggests that all ferrets should be given an injection which shuts down their reproductive hormone cycle. This applies to all ferrets. Even though they are neutered or spayed, they still produce reproductive hormones in their adrenal glands and this fact along with the fact that they don't shut down this production until they mate, makes the injection necessary. The injection should be given once per year in non-symptomatic ferrets beginning their first year. Males should receive the injection in January and females should receive it in February or March. Please call to shedule an appointment.
